Keep the hunts behind the traditions:
We spend a lot of time talking about hunting and fishing, and less about the family traditions that carry it between generations. About patterns and strategies, about trophies and techniques, about passing down traditions and building legacies in the field. All of that matters in its own way.
But Christmas isn’t about any of that.
Christmas is about the moment when God chose to enter His own creation as a helpless infant. Born in a stable, laid in a feeding trough, announced to shepherds in a field. The Creator of the universe made Himself vulnerable, took on human flesh, and lived among us.
That’s what Christmas celebrates. Not our pursuits or our passions, but the incredible reality that the divine came down to earth to live as we live, to teach us how to live rightly, and ultimately to die and rise again so that we could be forgiven and restored.
Everything else we chase – the big bucks, the memorable hunts, the traditions we build – they’re good things. But they’re nothing compared to the glory of what happened that first Christmas. The God who made the deer you track and the waters you fish decided that humanity mattered enough to Him that He would become one of us.
So before you head to the stand on Christmas morning, or gather with family around the tree, or do whatever your traditions look like, take a moment to remember what this day actually means.
Christ has come. That changes everything.
